about the artist
William Ohley works in the tradition of en plein air in landscape and figure painting. He is a current member of the South County Art Association of Kingston, RI, where he won several awards including a Recognition Award for an 8x10 acrylic-Muir Woods. Currently he resides in Matunuck, RI and is attempting to capture in paintings the seasonal changes in light and space. He exhibited a series of paintings at the Block Island State Airport during Spring 2013 under the RI State Council on the Arts, and had the painting ‘Sightings’ exhibited at the RI State House Gallery in 2019. He has sold a number of paintings through the Newport Art Museum, and directly to private collectors. In addition, he has taken several advanced painting classes through RISD.
Dr. Ohley also received the B.S.E.E., and the M.S.E.E., from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and the Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Stony Brook University in 1976. He first came to the University of Rhode Island as an Assistant Professor in 1976 and has been active in the area of Biomedical Engineering since that time. He has authored in excess of 150 scientific and technical papers, has edited several proceedings, and book chapters, and holds several US patents. Currently he also works in the area of cardiac assist, resuscitation, and in the use of fractals to analyze medical data. He was awarded the title of Distinguished Professor in 1999.
